My midwife’s hands and knowledge are guided by a force greater than what I could learn from Ina May Gaskin or Helen Varney. Though I am grateful for what they've taught me, the times when some intuitive "knock" willed me to trust my gut, has shown me that we do not do this work alone. Faith is trusting in something we cannot see with our eyes. Early in my midwife career I was drawn to this work, of the Maya healers and midwives. It has enriched my life beyond measure with the elegance and wisdom of it. My hope is that it will be so for those I serve as well.
At the beginning of the massage, I place my hands on the woman's abdomen, over her womb, her center of gravity, and silently ask a Blessing for healing: May the hands and heart of the midwife, be guided by the arms of the Goddesses and the Heart of the Almighty, in unity with the energy of all Creation; Mothers, Goddess Ix Chel : May our combined faith and dedication inspire and release this woman's power to navigate the Spiral Path and to achieve her fullest potential. My heart is my compass and I follow where it leads me. Source, light my path and show me what you need me to see.
At the end of the session, I silently thank all energies who came to be part of the session, release them in peace, and again repeat that my Heart is a compass and as I follow where it leads me, I am grateful for the joy it has brought me.
